Amazing multicultural city, packed with history for such a young city (~1860s), huge influences from different regions of China, India, and the British of course, an occupation by the Japanese during WWII; rich combination of heritage buildings in China town mixed with the most modern buildings everywhere, including the second world’s taller building, the Merkeda 118 (678.9m)
Although Islam is the state religion, Buddhist and Hindu temples and churches can be found mixing together near mosques; which is what the opening of the National Mosque in 1965 was all about, celebrating the independence of Malaysia first but also symbolizing the country’s unity and multi-cultural harmony.
And we could really get the vibe! And more recently, lots of street art has been popping up throughout the city, which makes walking around even more interesting!
Oh and did I mention the food? With such cultural diversity, Malay food finds some great inspiration, and Chinese and Indian foods are also just amazing! Sold on street
Food, cheap, cheerful and tasty.
